Nature Worship

Worship of the elements and nature itself lies at the heart of Slavic spirituality. Chronicles tell us that the Slavs worshiped not only water, fire, mountains, and trees, but also sun, moon, and stars.

Worship of the old Slavs was performed in forest groves and temples, cattle and fruits being offered by the priests, whose office must have been originally performed by the head of the family or chieftain, as the common name for priest and prince (knez or knyaz) shows.
